FAQ

What is hypnosis and will I lose control?

Hypnosis is safe and natural. We all go in and out of hypnotic trance states on a daily basis, like when someone talks to you but you don’t hear them because you were miles away or when you are looking for your car keys and don’t see them even though they are right in front of you. When you are in this trance state your unconscious mind is more receptive to positive suggestions but you are completely in control at all times and cannot be made to do anything that you do not want to.

So what does it feel like? I would say it’s a bit like day dreaming or being in a meditative state. You are very relaxed but are still aware of what is going on around you and can answer questions.

Hypnosis is only one of the techniques I use. If you are nervous about being hypnotised then we can find other ways of achieving the results you want.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Yes, provided they want to be. No one can be hypnotised against their will.

Can I get stuck in a trance?

No, you cannot get stuck in a trance, in the same way that you cannot get stuck sleeping. If you were left in a trance state you would either fall asleep and wake up naturally or simply get bored and get up and leave.

How many sessions will I need and how long do they last?

Treatment packages are tailor made to fit each client depending on their needs so how many sessions an individual requires differs from person to person.  From my experience, the minimum number of sessions a client requires to see positive change is four (with the exception of smoking cessation sessions). My first face to face session with a new client is a history take and lasts from 1 1/2 – 2 hours, subsequent sessions are 1-1 1/2 hours.

What is a typical session like?

Please see the following National Council of Hypnotherapy video in which a typical client discusses their experience of hypnotherapy.

Can you fix me?

Positive change can only be brought about by the active participation of the client. If you want me to click my fingers and instantly fix your problems then I am not the therapist for you.  Instead we will work together as a team to bring about the changes you want in your life. I believe everyone has everything they need to solve their problem, it’s just sometimes they need a bit of help doing so.

Do you keep up to date?

I am committed to Continued Professional Development. I keep up to date with the latest scientific research and attend workshops and meetings in order to learn about the most up to date techniques available.
